The Shave

Locked and loaded
And so it was on this day, the 31st of October, all Hallows Eve if you will, I shaved my manly Commander Riker beard in preparation for Movember. Fear not after I've grown a phenomenal mustache and obliterated prostate cancer I'll return to life as a bearded Adonis.

I'm pretty excited about Movember, it'll be fun to to grow a mustache again and I've got a great excuse to do it. I was able to recruit a pal of mine and now we have a Movember team, the Lip-Ferrets United. Because we're awesome like that.

If you want to check out his progress as well you can check out his blog here. Conor and I met in sunny Logandale, Nevada when we were both serving the Lord for two years as LDS missionaries and ever since our powers combined have led to hilarity and good times all around.

So when it comes down to it writing about just my challenges isn't going to generate a ton of content so I'm sure at some point here I will also be posting thoughts (code for rants) and additional content-esque things (you can tell I've seriously thought this one out).

Anyway I'll post clean shaven tomorrow and perhaps even have an idea of what direction this blog is going beyond my 30-day challenges.

'Stache Attack!

So as it turns out my first 30-day challenge was an all out failure, turns out I'm not horribly disciplined. So instead of bowing my head in failure I'm gearing up for my next challenge! I'm going to participate in the Movember event. Essentially I'm going to grow a fantastic mustache in an effort to get people to donate towards prostate and testicular cancer.

As I took this picture I discovered my Abby Road poster was crooked....
Here is a current mugshot, as part of Movember I'll do a full shave and start a fresh 'Mo' on November 1st. I'll post frequent updates of my budding young Mustache and hopefully as a result be more prepared for December's challenge whatever it may be. So really this is the challenge I can't fail unless I shave, which I don't plan on doing.

If you think this cause is as ridiculously awesome as I do (the whole trying to prevent cancer thing not me picking an easy challenge to complete) you can go 'sponsor' me (code for make a donation in honor of my 'Mo') right here. Pretty much any pennies will be appreciated because this is a pretty important deal, you know the whole men not getting cancer thing.

The Reality of the Whistle

Alright so this may be slightly more difficult than I thought. As I said before I can handle 'A Gift of Thistle' and 'Concerning Hobbits' what I didn't realize is those are some of the simpler songs to play..... unlucky. Anyway so I've decided to check out 'A Jesuit's Introduction to the Irish Whistle' and see if I can be patience enough to learn anything from him.

Videos are still forth coming because let's be honest here I still need to practice more before I want to put my skillz up on the interwebs. Especially because I've missed two days already (yesterday and the day before). However I spent a good hour or more terrorizing my poor wife, the rest of the household, and the neighborhood dogs whilst trying to hit high notes. Essentially I haven't given up yet however I haven't made a lot of progress either. Anyway we'll see how it goes. Maybe next post we'll do a video....

Stop It's Whistle Time!

Alright, after much deliberation I've decided that my first 30-day challenge is going to be to play my penny whistle every day for the 30 days. I already have a decent handle on 'A Gift of Thistle' from Braveheart and 'Concerning Hobbits' from Lord of the Rings so I figure I'll try and polish those and learn 3 other songs during the Challenge. If things go REALLY well I'll try and turn them all into a medley.

In other news my darling wife and her mother really liked the idea of the 30-day challenge and so have decided to take part this month. My wife will be outlining a story and mom will be writing a story she had previously outlined. So I'll be having updates of their progress as well!

I'll update the Blog fairly regularly and as I get each song to a point where it doesn't sound like the gruesome voice of Death himself I'll begin to post videos. I figure posting 2-3 times a week is reasonable.
